Before we get started:
We want your website to reflect who you are and appeal to those you wish to attract. That means it's important to do some planning ahead to make sure the final result reflects you well. You might want to collect business materials (yours and competitors’), sample websites you like/dislike, and other information that will help illuminate your vision.
Here's a brief checklist that helps us hit the ground running. Most web developers request something like this:
Your Company Information
* Logo
* Business Cards
* Company stationery
* Brochures, Sales pamphlets, newsletters, hand-outs, catalogs, pricing sheets, ect.
* Company history and mission
* Recent press releases and/or articles written about the company
* Competitive analysis (websites, product offerings, pricing, ect)
* Domain names currently used
Clearly these things are useful -- and if you don't have them, we can help you create them. We need to start where we are. And, we need to plan for where we wish to go. To this end, I ask that you also think of the following:
* Who is your target demographic and what web sites are they looking at?
* What do you hope to achieve with this web site?
* How much community interaction do you wish to enable?
* What mood do you wish to set -- edgy? serene? stable? professional? spiritual?
* What pictures / ads do you resonate with? What music best reflects your vision?
* What resources are you willing to devote to the site's content addition and maintenance?
* What level of on-going support do you expect from us?
* What will success look like to you? How will you know that you've achieved success?
